أكد الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (فيفا) دعمه الكامل لرئيسه جياني إنفانتينو، عقب اجتماع طارئ عقده في العاصمة المغربية الرباط (أمس الأربعاء) في محاولة لاحتواء أزمة داخلية تفجّرت بسبب مشروع تجاري أثار اعتراضات واسعة داخل الاتحاد وخارجه.
وجاء الاجتماع بعد تصاعد الانتقادات لخطة إنشاء شركة تجارية تابعة للفيفا تحت اسم (فيفا فورورد إنتربرايز «FFE»)، كانت تهدف إلى إدارة وبيع حصص من العوائد التجارية المرتبطة بمسابقات الاتحاد الدولي، قبل أن يتم تجميدها إثر جدل حول آلية طرحها ومستوى الشفافية المحيط بها.
وخلال الاجتماع، أقرّ إنفانتينو بوجود «أخطاء» في طريقة التعامل مع المشروع، فيما بعث الفيفا لاحقًا رسالة إلى مجلس الاتحاد والاتحادات الأعضاء اعتذر فيها عن تلك الأخطاء، متعهدًا بتحسين آليات اتخاذ القرار وضمان عدم تكرار ما حدث. ورغم الانتقادات، خرج الاجتماع برسالة دعم واضحة لرئيس الفيفا، إذ أكد الأمين العام ماتياس غرافستروم وأعضاء مجلس الإدارة المشاركون استمرار مساندتهم لإنفانتينو خلال المرحلة المقبلة.
وكانت الأزمة قد تصاعدت بعد إعلان الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم (يويفا) فقدان ثقته بإنفانتينو، معتبرًا أن مشروع (فيفا فورورد إنتربرايز) يفتقر إلى الشفافية، مطالبًا بتوضيحات حول طريقة إدارته. كما برزت اعتراضات من داخل الفيفا نفسه، حيث وصف غرافستروم في رسالة داخلية التطورات بأنها «سلسلة أحداث مؤسفة»، بينما أعلن مستشار إنفانتينو للاستراتيجية العالمية والحوكمة كارلوس كورديرو استقالته، مؤكدًا أن المشروع لا يخدم مستقبل كرة القدم.
وانضم المدير الفني لتطوير كرة القدم العالمية أرسين فينغر إلى قائمة المعترضين، مشددًا على أن إلغاء المشروع كان ضروريًا، وأنه لم يكن مشاركًا في إعداده ولم يعلم بتفاصيله إلا عبر التقارير الإعلامية، مؤكدًا أهمية الحفاظ على استقلالية الـ(فيفا) وشفافيته.
وتأتي هذه الأزمة في وقت يسعى فيه إنفانتينو إلى تعزيز الدور التجاري للـ(فيفا) وزيادة عائداته، بعد توسع كبير في البطولات خلال فترة رئاسته منذ عام 2016؛ أبرزها النظام الجديد لكأس العالم للأندية ورفع عدد المنتخبات المشاركة في كأس العالم إلى 48 منتخبًا بدءًا من نسخة 2026. غير أن الجدل الأخير أعاد إلى الواجهة أسئلة قديمة حول أسلوب إدارة الـ(فيفا) وملفات الحوكمة، خصوصًا بعد عقد من أزمة فساد كبيرة أعادت تشكيل هيكل المنظمة.
ورغم أن اجتماع الرباط نجح في تهدئة التوتر مؤقتًا، فإن ملف الشفافية وآليات اتخاذ القرار سيبقى من أبرز التحديات أمام إنفانتينو خلال الفترة المقبلة، وسط استمرار النقاش حول مستقبل إدارة الموارد التجارية لكرة القدم العالمية.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) confirmed its full support for its president Gianni Infantino following an emergency meeting held in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, (yesterday, Wednesday) in an attempt to contain an internal crisis that erupted due to a commercial project that sparked widespread objections both within and outside the federation.
The meeting came after escalating criticism of a plan to establish a commercial company under FIFA named “FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE),” which aimed to manage and sell shares of the commercial revenues associated with the international federation’s competitions, before it was frozen amid controversy over its launch mechanism and the level of transparency surrounding it.
During the meeting, Infantino acknowledged the existence of “mistakes” in the handling of the project, while FIFA later sent a message to the federation council and member associations apologizing for those mistakes, pledging to improve decision-making mechanisms and ensure that what happened does not recur. Despite the criticisms, the meeting concluded with a clear message of support for FIFA’s president, as Secretary General Matthias Grafström and participating board members reaffirmed their continued backing for Infantino during the upcoming phase.
The crisis had escalated after the European Football Association (UEFA) announced it had lost confidence in Infantino, considering that the FIFA Forward Enterprise project lacked transparency and demanding clarifications regarding its management. There were also objections from within FIFA itself, as Grafström described the developments in an internal message as “a series of unfortunate events,” while Infantino’s global strategy and governance advisor Carlos Cordeiro announced his resignation, confirming that the project does not serve the future of football.
The director of global football development, Arsène Wenger, joined the list of dissenters, emphasizing that the cancellation of the project was necessary and that he had not participated in its preparation and only learned about its details through media reports, stressing the importance of maintaining FIFA’s independence and transparency.
This crisis comes at a time when Infantino is seeking to enhance FIFA’s commercial role and increase its revenues, following significant expansion in tournaments during his presidency since 2016; most notably, the new system for the Club World Cup and raising the number of participating teams in the World Cup to 48 starting from the 2026 edition. However, the recent controversy has brought back old questions about FIFA’s management style and governance files, especially after a decade of a major corruption crisis that reshaped the organization’s structure.
Although the Rabat meeting succeeded in temporarily calming tensions, the issues of transparency and decision-making mechanisms will remain among the most prominent challenges facing Infantino in the coming period, amid ongoing discussions about the future management of global football’s commercial resources.
