شنّ أسطورة الكرة الألمانية لوثار ماتيوس هجومًا لاذعًا على زوجات وصديقات لاعبي منتخب ألمانيا، في أعقاب الخروج المفاجئ للمانشافت من كأس العالم 2026، بعد السقوط أمام باراغواي بركلات الترجيح في دور الـ32.

وأوضح أسطورة ألمانيا أن هذه القضية ليست جديدة عليه، مشيرًا إلى تجربته حين كان لاعبًا في كأس العالم 1994، فقد كانت مثل هذه الملفات محل نقاش دائم داخل المعسكرات، حتى وإن لم تكن تصل إلى الإعلام.
وأضاف أن ترتيبات سفر وإقامة العائلات قد تثير الجدل بين اللاعبين، خصوصًا في حال وجود تفاوت في الامتيازات أو المعاملة، وهو ما يخلق شعورًا بعدم المساواة داخل الفريق.

The German legend explained that this issue is not new to him, pointing to his experience as a player in the 1994 World Cup, where such matters were a constant topic of discussion within the camps, even if they did not reach the media.
He added that the arrangements for the travel and accommodation of families could stir controversy among the players, especially if there were disparities in privileges or treatment, which creates a feeling of inequality within the team.
Matthäus noted that the continued presence of family members and team staff within the camp made the atmosphere feel more like an “open family day” rather than the focused environment required for a major tournament like the World Cup.
He concluded his statements by affirming that the presence of families is natural during breaks, but he stressed at the same time the necessity of not overdoing it or allowing it to become a factor that affects the competitive atmosphere within the team.
