جاء تأهل الفراعنة عقب تعادل المنتخب السعودي مع منتخب الرأس الأخضر دون أهداف، وفوز إسبانيا على أوروغواي بهدف نظيف، فجر اليوم، ليضمن المنتخب المصري الصعود ضمن أفضل 8 منتخبات تحتل المركز الثالث على الأقل.

ولم يسبق لمنتخب مصر تجاوز دور المجموعات في مشاركاته السابقة بكأس العالم، بينما كان أول انتصار في تاريخه بالبطولة على حساب منتخب نيوزيلندا 3-1 في الجولة الماضية.

وفي حال الفوز على إيران، سيضمن المنتخب المصري صدارة المجموعة السابعة، إذ يعتلي حاليا قمة الترتيب برصيد 4 نقاط، مقابل نقطتين لكل من إيران وبلجيكا، بينما يتذيل منتخب نيوزيلندا الترتيب برصيد نقطة واحدة.
