The sports community was devastated by the death of Abdulaziz Al-Shahri, a player for Damak under 21, just days after the passing of the nurse who revived his heart twice following a traffic accident. Two departures were linked by a brother’s plea and a nurse’s promise, ending with the loss of a young man who was battling his injuries, and the man who exerted his efforts to save him.
The Minister of Sports, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, mourned the player, offering his heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathy, asking God to grant him wide mercy, to place him in His spacious gardens, and to inspire his family and loved ones with patience and solace.
Al-Shahri was transferred to Asir Hospital following a traffic accident in which he suffered a brain hemorrhage, a fracture at the base of the skull, and a pelvic fracture, according to information received about his condition after the accident. His family began a difficult few days, waiting for his recovery and return, before the wait ended with news of his death, extinguishing the dreams of a young man who was at the beginning of his football journey.
During those days, the irony occurred as recounted by his brother. Nurse Abdulrahman Al-Suhari, who intervened to save Abdulaziz, passed away while the player was still receiving treatment. The brother wrote a eulogy for him, recalling the details of his brother’s situation from the first moments of danger.
According to his account, Abdulaziz’s heart stopped at the accident, and Al-Suhari, after God, contributed to reviving him, then entered the resuscitation room with him. When his heart stopped again, the nurse returned to revive him with determination.
The brother recalled his plea to him, saying: “My brother is in God’s hands and then yours, take care of him and do everything for him.” The response came: “I promise by God to keep him in my eyes and I won’t sleep until I am sure he is okay.”
That promise remained present in the brother’s memory, along with the details of the nurse’s consolation to him and his concern for his brother. He wrote that Abdulrahman stood by him, exerting his efforts tirelessly, and was eagerly waiting for the morning to enter the intensive care unit and check on Abdulaziz, but death overtook him before he could return to him.
The brother mourned him with words that blended sadness with gratitude: “He left while fulfilling his duty with complete humanity, and he left with his sincere words bearing witness to him.” He prayed that God would place what he did for his brother in the balance of his good deeds, and concluded his eulogy with a prayer for Abdulaziz’s recovery.
Then the player also passed away, leaving his brother’s words as a testament to the days he transitioned from mourning the man who saved his brother to receiving condolences for his brother. Between the two farewells, Abdulrahman’s stance remained preserved in the family’s narrative, and Abdulaziz remained the young man whose heart was revived twice, but whose return to life and the fields was not completed.
The president and members of the board of directors of Damak Club and all its affiliates mourned the player, offering condolences and sympathy to his parents, family, and loved ones. The prayer for him is scheduled to be held tomorrow (Sunday), after the afternoon prayer, at the Grand Mosque in Ahad Thurban in the Al-Majardah governorate.
